Google Gemini Can Now Access Your WhatsApp Chats by Default

Google has updated how Gemini interacts with Android apps. Gemini can now connect with WhatsApp, Messages, Phone, and Utilities. It can send messages, make calls, and set timers. These features work even if you turn Gemini off.

Gemini connects with these apps by default now. The update will roll out to all Android phones. Google says it improves user experience and AI performance. But many users did not expect this silent change.

Google’s website explains Gemini saves your chats for 72 hours. This applies even when Gemini App Activity is disabled. It claims the data is used for safety and better results. But it still stores your private data without asking clearly.

Why Users Are Worried About Their Privacy Now

Some users like that Gemini becomes more useful now. It helps send WhatsApp messages using voice or AI commands. It also assists in making calls or setting reminders. But others feel this is a privacy risk.

The encrypted email provider Tuta raised strong concerns. It warned that Google silently enabled this feature. Users were not clearly asked for their permission. According to Tuta, companies must always be more transparent.

They believe users must choose these features, not be forced. Even if App Activity is off, Gemini still reads messages. This breaks user trust and puts private data at risk. More people now question how safe their Android phones are.

How to Turn Off Gemini Access to WhatsApp

You can stop Gemini from accessing your WhatsApp chats. Open the Gemini app on your Android phone. Tap your profile photo at the top-right corner. Now tap “Gemini Apps Activity” from the menu.

Turn off the toggle to disable app tracking fully. But Google still stores data for 72 hours even then. If you want to block a specific app like WhatsApp, follow this:

  • Open Gemini app and tap your profile picture
  • Go to “Apps” in the menu
  • Select which apps Gemini can use or not
  • Turn off access to WhatsApp and other apps

You can also go to device settings to disable Gemini. Some advanced users even uninstall Gemini with developer tools. But this method needs technical knowledge and a computer. Watch for future updates as Google may change things again.

Google Gemini now reads WhatsApp chats by default. It connects with other apps even when disabled. This update helps users but also risks privacy. You can stop this by changing Gemini settings today. Always review app permissions to protect your personal data.
