Apple iPhone Air launch in China delayed because of eSIM regulations. The slim iPhone was introduced during Apple’s ‘Awe Dropping’ event. It is Apple’s thinnest device yet, only 5.6mm thick.Â
Apple has started pre-orders in more than 63 countries worldwide. However, Chinese customers must wait longer as authorities review eSIM approval and final regulatory clearance for its release.
Apple iPhone Air Facing China Delay
Apple unveiled the iPhone Air with iPhone 17 models. The phone is slim, lightweight, and supports eSIM-only operation. Initially, Apple planned Chinese pre-orders for September 12. Deliveries were scheduled for September 19, alongside other iPhone 17 devices.
Apple later updated its Chinese website, removing launch dates completely. A new message said release details would be updated later instead.
Apple confirmed it is working closely with Chinese regulators. The company promised to bring iPhone Air soon after approval. Other models like iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and Pro Max remain unaffected.
They continue with planned launch schedules in China as expected. The delay currently applies only to the iPhone Air version. Apple has not provided any fresh China release timeline yet.
eSIM Technology Creates Launch Hurdles
The iPhone Air does not have a SIM tray. It works entirely through eSIM support, which is already popular globally. But in China, telecom operators were slow to support iPhone eSIM.
Apple earlier partnered only with China Unicom, requiring in-store verification. Now Apple says all three state-owned carriers will enable eSIM. These include China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom together.
China Mobile has confirmed that eSIM services are now enabled. But it said exact launch dates would be announced later. China Telecom’s rollout is still awaiting final government approval.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is reviewing services. Apple said it is coordinating with these operators to finalize. Once approval arrives, eSIM-based iPhone Air sales will begin immediately.
iPhone Air Features and Pricing Details
Despite the delay, Apple continues highlighting iPhone Air specifications. The device measures 5.6mm and weighs only 165 grams. It features a 6.5-inch ProMotion display with smooth visuals.
The phone runs on Apple’s powerful A19 Pro chip. Battery backup supports up to 27 hours of video playback. It carries a 48MP rear camera and an 18MP selfie camera.
Globally, pre-orders opened on September 12 in several countries. In India, the iPhone Air starts at Rs. 1,19,900. The global release date remains September 19 for early buyers.
Only Chinese customers face uncertainty due to the eSIM approval. The device is still expected to attract strong demand after launch. Its slim design and modern features appeal to many worldwide.Apple iPhone Air launch in China delayed due to eSIM hurdles.
The company removed earlier launch dates and gave no timeline. Until then, global markets continue receiving iPhone Air deliveries. The device’s slim body and powerful features make it highly desirable.
