Use Siri to Split a Bill and Tip on Apple Watch

Apple’s voice assistant Siri can calculate tips very quickly. It works perfectly on iPhone, Apple Watch, Mac, and HomePod. You can trigger Siri by saying “Hey Siri” anytime. On the iPhone, press the Side button and ask Siri directly. On Apple Watch, hold the Digital Crown button to start Siri.

Say the bill amount along with tip percentage clearly. For example, say “forty-five dollars seventy cents plus twenty percent.” Siri understands the command and replies with the final total. In this example, Siri will say $54.84 immediately on screen. This avoids the need to calculate everything by yourself.

You can also ask Siri to split the bill. After the total appears, say “divide by three” instantly. Siri will calculate and show each person’s correct share. For example, the result will be $18.28 per person. This way, you can manage fair payments during group dining.

Always speak clearly to make Siri understand the request. Small mistakes in numbers may change the entire calculation. Siri is very useful when you want quick answers. It helps you avoid pulling out phone or calculator. Many people prefer Siri because it is completely hands-free.

This method is simple and quick for small groups. However, it works only when you speak exact numbers. Still, it remains one of the easiest ways. Siri makes splitting bills and adding tips almost effortless.

Use Calculator App to Split a Bill and Tip on Apple Watch

The Calculator app on Apple Watch has special functions. It is available on all Apple Watch models directly. The app includes both tip calculation and split option inside. These two functions work together or can be used separately.

First, open the Calculator app on your Apple Watch. Enter the total bill amount on the calculator screen. Now, tap the TIP button near the divide option. If you see a percentage instead, adjust the calculator settings first. Go to Settings, open Calculator, then select Tip Function.

When the Tip field is highlighted in green, rotate Digital Crown. This allows you to increase or decrease the tip percentage. You can easily set your preferred tip percentage value. Once done, tap the People option below the tip field. Use Digital Crown again to set the number of people.

The maximum number of people supported is fifty total. The app will show the new amount automatically below. First, you will see the total bill including tips. Next, you will see how much each person owes. This updates automatically based on tip percentage and people count.

If you are eating alone, keep People set to one. The calculation will only show the final bill with a tip. This is very convenient when you want to pay quickly. You can adjust the percentage anytime without needing extra effort.

The Calculator app helps avoid confusion during large group dining. Everyone can see the share displayed directly on screen. It reduces the chance of arguments about bill amounts. The process is very quick and requires just your wrist. Apple Watch users find this method reliable and fast.

Use iPhone Shortcuts to Split a Bill and Tip

Unlike the Apple Watch, the iPhone Calculator app lacks a tip feature directly. To calculate tips and splits, you need to use the Shortcuts app. A special shortcut called Calculate Tip & Split is available online. You can add this shortcut from ShortcutsGallery to your library.

After adding, open the Shortcuts app and find the shortcut. Tap the Calculate Tip & Split shortcut to start it. First, you will see a prompt for the total bill. Enter the full bill amount and then press Done. Next, choose the tip percentage you would like to add.

After selection, the shortcut will show the total amount and tip. Tap OK to confirm and continue to the next step. You will now see a message “Are You Splitting the Bill?” Select Yes if you want to divide the total amount. Enter the number of people splitting and then press Done finally.

The shortcut will now display each person’s share with a tip. This makes dividing and tipping easy using your iPhone directly. The default minimum percentage in shortcut is ten percent. However, you can edit the shortcut to add five percent.

Tap three dots on the shortcut to open the settings screen. Add a new percentage in the Choose From Menu With option. Then search for Number and set the correct decimal value there.

For example, for five percent, type 0.05 in the field. Save changes and the new percentage will appear next time.
