Government Clarification
Government sources clearly said no directive has been issued to unblock TikTok. ANI and PTI reported such news as “false and misleading.” Internet service providers continue blocking TikTok completely in India.
The brief website access is similar to AliExpress, which also appeared occasionally despite being banned. Authorities stressed that TikTok remains blocked for national security reasons.
Reason for Ban
India banned 59 Chinese apps including TikTok in 2020. The ban followed Galwan Valley clashes with China that raised security concerns. Intelligence agencies reported apps were collecting sensitive user data outside India.
The government said these applications acted against sovereignty, public order, and national security. TikTok had over 200 million users in India before the ban, making it extremely popular.
