Google Photos gets Material 3 Expressive redesign soon. This update will bring many design and feature changes. Google is preparing this redesign for Android 16.

Google is updating the app with a fresh look. The homepage will now show a clean layout. The Google Photos name is removed from the top. A small app logo appears in place of the name.

Memories carousel also gets a new design update. Each card has a heart-shaped border around it. The bottom half shows the photo clearly. The top half has text on a solid background.

The app loading icon is also getting redesigned. It will now match the new Material 3 style. Animations will look more natural and springy. Google has redesigned the album view as well.

You can now scan QR codes to share albums. The “Sort photos” button is now at the top. This makes album management easy for users. The new look will feel smooth and modern.

New Video Player and Search Page Features

The video player will get useful new controls. Play and pause buttons are now on the side. The video timeline is wider and easier to use. A vertical handle helps you scroll through the video.

New gestures will let you tap to skip parts. Tap left to rewind and right to fast forward. This is similar to features in YouTube and Instagram.

The time and date now show at the top. The cast icon will move to a menu below. Share, Edit, and Trash buttons remain unchanged. A new “Add to” button is now included below. This helps users add videos to albums quickly.

The search page is also getting a complete makeover. When you search, matching images appear in a big box. This box takes up almost half of the screen.

Tapping the box shows only the best results. Recent images appear below the big square. The search bar is now at the bottom. It appears in a round pill-shaped design. This makes the app look more modern.

Release Timeline for This New Redesign
